When Lowering Your Expectations Is A GOOD Thing

We’re wrapping up our “systems series” this month, and I’ve got one final gem for you:

Accepting that no one you bring on board will do your job quite like you can.

Let’s face it…

You’re the business owner.

You’re going to care more, work harder, and have a deeper understanding of your business than anyone you hire. That’s just the nature of owning a business.

But here’s the thing: just because someone might not do a job exactly like you would, doesn’t mean they can’t do a great job.

And when you start hiring A-players, they’ll even be able to do some specific tasks better than you.

The 80/20 rule is a game-changer in this context…

If someone can do an entry-level task at least 80% as well as you can AND they align with your company’s values, it’s worth delegating it to them. (As long as it makes sense in their role, of course.)

When they’re done with the task, all you have to do is tweak it (and of course, work with them over time to get them closer and closer to where you want it!).

This frees up your time to focus on the 20% of tasks that only you can do and that have the most significant impact on your business.

The reality is that when you insist on doing everything yourself because “no one can do it like you” …

You bottleneck your own growth.

So rather than trying to find a perfect clone of yourself, start building a team with complementary skills who you can trust.

Not sure where to start?

Identify tasks that are time-consuming but don’t require your unique expertise.

These are your PRIME candidates for delegation.

Of course, you’ll still need to set clear expectations, provide the necessary resources, and be available for guidance…

But the more you invest in your team’s development, the closer their performance will meet and exceed your standards!

And finally? Adjust your mindset.

Instead of insisting on doing it your way 100% of the time, CELEBRATE the strengths your team members bring to the table.

Their different perspectives and skills can add value in ways you might not have even realized you needed!

We’ll wrap this all up with a recap in my next post, but for now…

Please let me know if this series was helpful for you! I love hearing your feedback 🙂

Make it an amazing day,

Alicia
