As health and fitness pros, we know building healthy habits is the real “secret sauce” behind the amazing results our clients want.
So, it would be logical that it works the same way in our businesses, right?
After more than a decade of successfully running my own fitness and coaching businesses…
I can tell you that EVERY result comes down to the habits you’re committed to keeping on a daily basis – the good and the bad.
The majority of my success has come from committing to a few specific habits – and I wanted to give you an inside look in case they help you, too.
I’ve divided my business habits into two categories:
- Planning/thinking/reflecting on success habits
- Daily “move the needle” success habits
Today, we’re going to focus on the first category.
Habit #1: Monthly & Quarterly Planning
Planning your big, needle-moving goals for the quarter helps you pinpoint the exact activities you need to focus on each month to get there…
And once you identify these needle-moving activities, it comes down to building a HABIT of actually doing them on a daily, CONSISTENT basis.
>> Have you blocked off quarterly and monthly planning sessions for 2022?
Habit #2: Time-Blocking
Are you checking email all day long? How about social?
If you are, I can pretty much guarantee it’s killing your productivity and ability to grow and scale.
If there never seems to be enough time in a day to get it all done, it’s time to start taking time-blocking SERIOUSLY.
And it’s not just time-blocking your working “on” – and “in” the business tasks that makes the difference…
But it’s holding yourself accountable to staying focused and actually DOING what you said you were going to do.
Alicia’s Time Tip: I don’t have a to-do list anymore, I just estimate how long a task is going to take and then schedule it right into my Google calendar.
>> Have you time-blocked the next 7-days? (including your own workouts!)
Habit #3: Reconnect With Your Mission & Why
If you’re not careful, you can get so caught up in the day-to-day that we forget WHY we’re even doing all of this in the first place.
Everything feels harder and more stressful than it should be, and things take twice (or 3x times) as long to get done. You may even begin to wonder if it’s even worth it.
The solution?
Check-in with your mission, your why, and your goals on a regular basis. (At least weekly.)
>> Do you check in with your mission, your why, and your goals/vision at LEAST once a week?
Habit #4: Monthly Reflection & Realignment
You and I both know things don’t always go as planned…
And sometimes they DO!
That’s why taking an hour at the end of each month to reflect & realign can help you:
- Figure out exactly what’s working and what’s not
- Readjust your action plan if needed before you slip too far off track
- And help you feel more accomplished and motivated as you take stock of everything you DID achieve! (I’d take a bet that you don’t give yourself enough credit for how far you have already come. Am I right?)
Alicia’s Time Tip: I lump in my monthly reflection right in with my monthly planning from habit #1.
>> Do you have one tiny hour blocked off for your monthly reflection & planning?
Habit #5: Prioritize Personal Growth
For me, this is DAILY and non-negotiable. When I slack on personal growth, I feel less inspired, less motivated, and less connected. Can you relate to this?
This can be as simple as spending 10 mins reading an inspiring book or listening to a podcast when you wake up…
Working with a coach or studying a new program you’re taking …
Or even taking time to get your thoughts down on paper so you can take an honest look at how you’re feeling and what you want.
As you grow, your business grows!
>> What are you doing DAILY for personal growth?
=========================
So… which one of these habits do you think you need the most?
If you’re already doing all of these, CONGRATS!
And if not, start by choosing ONE and stick with it for 30 days.
(PRO TIP: Don’t overwhelm yourself with starting too many new habits at once!)
It’s May, and it’s a BRAND NEW month…
Let’s make the best of it!
Oh… and keep an eye posted because in a few days I’ll be breaking down category two – the “Daily “move the needle” success habits” 🙂
Make it a great day!
