In a couple of hours, I’m leaving for Business Mastery (Tony Robbins)- woohoo!
Can’t wait to fill you in on what I learn this week…. I’m fully anticipating that this will be a life-changing experience.
Anyway, let’s get down to business….
We all know how important “focus” is. Without it, nothing gets done.
Focus is NOT about paying extra attention to whatever it is you want to achieve. There’s only so much time in a day, and your attention is limited.
Focus is more about saying NO to things that pull you away from your goals.
And to do that, you have to set up clear boundaries in your business (and your life!).
Here’s one of my favorite quotes:
“People think focus means saying yes to the thing you’ve got to focus on. But that’s not what it means at all. It means saying no to the hundred other good ideas that there are. You have to pick carefully. I’m actually as proud of the things we haven’t done as the things I have done. Innovation is saying no to 1,000 things.” — Steve Jobs
Focus is NOT about constantly doing more and more.
Focus is about giving yourself the SPACE, TIME, and ENERGY needed to move forward towards your goals… where YOU are in control.
It’s about being PROactive rather than REactive.
Let’s take it to the next level: What BOUNDARIES do you need to set, to make sure your vision comes to life?
Here are some great questions to ask yourself:
- What is the highest and best use of your time? (and are you doing at least 1 thing each day to move your business forward)?
- Are you doing tasks that can be delegated, automated, or even eliminated?
- Do you have real clarity on what you want to accomplish in your business this year?
- Are you time blocking your schedule?
- Are you actually sticking to your time blocks? (this also means NOT checking emails or fb when you’re supposed to be doing something else.)
- Are you effectively estimating how long it will take to achieve certain tasks?
- Are you letting your clients or others dictate your schedule?
- Do you close your office door when you’re in the studio, to limit interruptions?
- Do you need to NOT go into the studio to be able to get more “focus” time done?
- Do you need to rearrange your class schedule to free yourself from coaching during your most “productive” time of day?
- Do you need to say NO more often? (My default answer is NO. There has to be a compelling reason for me to say “yes.” Took my a while to get there, but it was one of the most productive shifts I’ve ever made.)
Spend a few minutes really thinking about these questions today. Remember- aim to get 1% better every day.
What’s ONE thing you can do today to better improve your level of focus? Do that thing.
And remember: you’re not setting boundaries to shut out your clients or team… you’re creating them so you can serve them at an even higher level.
Make it an amazing and productive day,
Alicia
