Last night I went to a UFC fight here in Orlando. I’ve been a fan for years, and this was my 4th live fight. Stephens Vs. Emmett.
Controversial win for Stephens because there was an illegal knee and then an illegal elbow to the back of the head. Personally, I believe ref blew the call… but we’ll save that for another time.
I was inspired by every single fighter that stepped into that cage. They risked everything and put it all on the line.
They put their mind, body, and spirit to the test during every fight. But it was way more than that.
These athletes put in an incredible number of hours of hard, repetitive, and not-so-glamorous work that no one ever sees.
They dedicate their lives to their training. They sacrifice time away from their family. They literally shed blood, sweat, and tears….
And they do it all because they’re chasing their DREAM and are fighting for what they want.
It’s incredibly inspiring. And there’s a HUGE lesson in this.
There’s SO much that goes on underneath the surface and behind the scenes. It’s true in the UFC, and it’s also true when it comes to being an entrepreneur.
No one sees the ridiculously early mornings, or the sleepless nights you have thinking about your business. They don’t know that you’ve gotten more done before 8 am than most people will in an entire day.
They don’t see when you want to throw your computer out the window, or beat your head against the wall. They don’t see the time you sacrificed away from your family, or the rushed meals on your way to train a client.
Few people will ever witness the amount of REAL work and effort it takes to become GREAT. Most people only see the outcome. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Doing the work is what separates doers from dreamers.
There’s no substitute for putting in the time and doing the work.
- Get 1% better every single day
- Continually study, learn, practice, and refine your craft
- Find coaches and mentors to challenge you and help you grow
- Read DAILY
- Know yourself- your strengths and challenges
- Fall in love with the daily (and sometimes boring) tasks that needs to get done
- Never take your eye off the ball
- Know your “why”
- Surround yourself with people who inspire you and challenge you to be your best
- Work your a$$ off when nobody’s watching
And always remember, it takes years to become an “overnight success.”
But do you want to know a secret?
It’s never the “success” that makes you happy.
It’s ALL about the person you become along the way.
And you’re smack dab in the middle of it right now.
It’s the thrilling roller coaster ride of being entrepreneur.
It’s about learning what you’re made of, punching fear in the face, and realizing that no matter what comes your way, you’re going to “figure it out.” Because you can, and you WILL.
Learn to LOVE it, because this is definitely one of the best parts.
You know how the quote goes, “Life is a journey, enjoy the ride.”
Make it an amazing day,
Alicia 🙂
