Back in the 1930s, movie studio execs figured out that the average consumer needed to see a movie advertisement about seven times before they decided to buy a ticket.
To this day, the marketing world refers to that “rule” as the “Rule of 7”.
The only problem?
These days, we’re bombarded with so much more content, that repeating a message seven times is no longer enough for people to even register it — let alone act on it.
Think about it…
When you’re scrolling your newsfeed and you come across someone you’re interested in following, you don’t immediately make them your go-to resource for whatever it is you followed them for.
But over time, after hearing them repeat the same message over and over again, they start to become that go-to authority for you.
The same is true for your followers when they first see you!
When we post content, we tend to get in our heads and think everyone is looking at us ALL the time, so it feels uncomfortable to repeat the same message over and over…
We think people will notice that we’re always saying the same thing, get bored, and leave.
But in reality?
You’re just a small blip on someone’s newsfeed, and they’re consuming SO much other content that they likely won’t even notice the repetition.
In fact, they NEED it!
So, the next time you’re tempted to reinvent the wheel, or you feel overwhelmed coming up with “new” content…
Just find a new way to say what you’ve been saying all along.
You don’t have to be the loudest — you just have to be the most consistent!
Make it an amazing day,
Alicia
