5 Email Marketing Mistakes To Avoid

Are you getting the most out of your email marketing?

Last week, I mentioned how a new study from Litmus found that email marketing, on average, yields a $36 return for every $1 spent (which is an insane ROI!).

But, results like that require a lot more effort than just whipping up a promo email here and there and pressing “send”.

In fact, there are a few email marketing mistakes that can hurt your results and seriously impact the trust and credibility you have with your list!

Mistakes like…

  1. Not having a clear call-to-action (CTA) – Whether it’s signing up for your program or implementing a helpful tip, just give them ONE thing to do (we’ll talk more about how to create clear, effective CTAs in a later email!).
  2. Not adding enough value – Email should help you build a real relationship with your audience, not just sell them. Otherwise, it’s like having a friend who only calls you when they want something — it’s not a good look!
  3. Not having a strategy – Your messaging, timing, and what you want your reader to do are all things to consider before you ever start emailing your list.It helps to work backward from your main business goals (like getting a certain amount of people into your high-ticket coaching program each month), and outlining your next 30-60 days of emails from there.
  4. Not optimizing for mobile view – Since 90% of people will read your emails on their phone, it’s always a good idea to send a quick test to yourself to make sure it still looks good and is easy to read.
  5. Not segmenting your list Email marketing works best when you’re sending the right message to the right people. Be sure to break up your list according to what people opted in for or purchased, and send them emails that match their interests.

If you can avoid these 5 mistakes, odds are you’ll start to see some awesome payoff.

And if you just realized you’re making one of these mistakes, don’t worry! Adjust course and keep on going 🙂

Happy emailing!
