Why Taking Small Steps To Grow Your Business Doesn’t Work…

This may rock the boat.

Ready to see where taking SMALL, CONSISTENT, DAILY STEPS to reach your goals… DOESN’T work.

That advice works amazingly well for a lot of things in life: improving fitness, changing body composition, dealing with your finances, keeping your house clean, and definitely in SOME areas of your business…

But for some other things – it actually can work AGAINST you!

Asking your brain to constantly switch between activities takes time and energy. It makes it challenging to focus and make REAL progress on whatever you’re working on.

A better approach is to BATCH your work and focus on doing just one thing at a time. You’ll notice you’re able to get a lot more done in a lot less time.

Batching: a quantity or consignment of goods produced at one time.

Batching can even be ENERGIZING and leave you feeling less stressed than when you’re trying to do 37 different things every single day.

As an example, you could set aside specific blocks of time each week or month to work on your finances, creating/refining new business systems, and on your marketing.

Let’s talk about how this works with content and marketing. The old-school “multi-tasking” approach would have you spending a little time each day:

  • Creating/monitoring Facebook/Instagram ad campaigns
  • Writing emails
  • Developing blog/social media content
  • Making graphics to go with your social media content

There’s a lot of time-consuming busy work in there and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed if you see the SAME things day in and day out on your to-do list.

The irony is that while you may feel productive, at the end of the day, you wonder exactly what you accomplished!

But if you BATCH this kind of work, you set aside a solid block of time once a week or even once a MONTH for just ONE THING.

You could decide that on Tuesday afternoons, you’re going to work on your email marketing by writing email newsletters. And when you’re done, you’ll have tangible results from your work!

To boost the batching effect, set aside a separate time a day or two later, like Thursday morning, to EDIT those emails, after you’ve had some time to get some distance from them. You’ll find things you need to add, and other things you want to change.

Also, writing and editing actually require different skills, so you’ll find you’re able to get into the flow a lot faster and easier if you break up these tasks.

That’s just an example. You can also do the same thing with other tasks, like setting up a Friday afternoon finance review or going over your ad campaigns on Monday mornings.

Now, I realize this can seem like a LOT. There are only so many hours in a day, and there are only 7 days in a week … and oh yeah, you also need to eat, sleep, get in your own workouts, and have a personal life!

This is why I *also* suggest you focus on YOUR 5% (which are the things you like doing, that you’re good at, and that advance your business) and delegate as much as absolutely possible of everything else!

And that’s EXACTLY why I have been busy, busy, behind-the-scenes, putting together a program to help you with your content and social media platforms for your business… saving you literally dozens of hours of work each month!
