This One Change = Better Leads

I was talking to a client a few months ago…

And she told me that every lead coming in had a “victim mentality.”

So I asked her to pull up her content.

Within 30 seconds, I knew exactly what was happening.

Her posts were loaded with verbiage like:

  • “It’s not your fault…”
  • “You’ve tried everything and nothing works…”
  • “You’ve been let down by every coach and every program…”

And then she’d double down on the pain points.

Not only is that a dead giveaway it was written by AI…

but she was speaking to the most defeated version of her audience.

It wasn’t just pain-point marketing…

It was reinforcing their identity.

So I gave her my honest feedback:

  1. If this is the energy you’re leading with… don’t be surprised when that’s exactly who shows up in your DMs.
  2. You’re unknowingly anchoring people in their struggle.

Instead:

Start speaking to the version of them that’s ready to CHANGE.

Because if you keep reinforcing the identity of “I’ve been failed” or “Nothing ever works for me”…

You attract leads who stay stuck in that mindset.

You probably know exactly the type of lead or client I’m talking about.

The one who:

Wants to complain more than take action…

Or needs validation more than they want change.

That’s NOT who your best-fit clients are.

So here’s the shift:

Instead of marketing to people who aren’t ready to take action…

➡️ Start speaking to the one who’s just hit their “fed up moment.”

People who NEED change.

Who are READY for it.

They’re aware of the problem… and open to solutions.

Here’s what that sounds like in real life:

Instead of:
❌ “You’ve tried everything and nothing has worked…”

Say:
✅ “You’ve outgrown the quick fixes… and are ready for something that actually lasts.”

Instead of:
❌ “It’s not your fault you’ve been inconsistent…”

Say:
✅ “You’ve built discipline in other areas… and now you’re finally ready to apply that to your X goals.”

Instead of:
❌ “You’re tired of feeling like a failure…”

Say:
✅ “You’re done with mediocracy and done giving away your power… and you’re READY to take the lead in your own life.”

See the difference?

It’s how you filter out the people who likely won’t be a great fit…

And start calling the ones who are ready to change and committed to growth!
