Stop Being So “Helpful”

I was talking to a gym owner yesterday who is currently “drowning.”

She was at her daughter’s birthday dinner over the weekend…but she wasn’t fully present.

Her mind was on the phone hidden under the table, while she was swapping a class credit for a member who “forgot” to cancel.

She was trying to be helpful.

Doing her absolute best.

But what this really is… is a lack of boundaries.

And a lack of systems.

How many times has your mind been somewhere else when you were with your family or friends?

For me, it used to be a lot.

I felt guilty for not working when I was with my family…

and guilty for not being with my family when I was working.

This is not a recipe for success.

Every time you break your own rules to “over-deliver,” you’re teaching your members that your business has no boundaries.

And then it builds from there.

They don’t even mean take advantage of your time… they just think it’s okay because you’ve never told them otherwise.

You’re unknowingly conditioning your clients to treat you like you’re an on-demand personal assistant instead of an owner.

Not only does this come at a HUGE personal cost…

But it’s keeping you from the work that actually matters.

Systems and automation should be handling those class swaps and lead follow-ups for you.

This way, you know that most everything is handled automatically, and you can focus your energy on the people in front of you—both in the gym AND at the dinner table….

WITHOUT the guilt.

You actually end up being MORE reliable.

(And a lot more fun to be around!)

You’ll find that when you start respecting your own time, your clients finally start doing the same. 🙂

Make it an AMAZING day,

Alicia

P.S. If you’re ready to stop being the world’s most overqualified personal assistant, Coach Engine is just $127/mo. It can run the entire back-end of your business so you can be present for the people who matter most. Check out the system here.
