How I Finally Overcame My Fear and Started Doing Reels

Ready to learn how to make some more sales on Instagram ‍♀️

Well you’re in for a TREAT… because that’s exactly what this mini-series is about.

To kick things off, I broke down exactly how to optimize your IG bio to get more sales earlier this week.

But before I dive in to more of the tactics…

I want to address the elephant in the room.

You might be wondering…

“Alicia, what’s been holding you back from doing reels?!”

Valid question.

And the answer is prob going to surprise you…

Well…here it is. (#transparency)

I was stalling because I hate doing video.

And with reels, well, you’re on video all the time.

I got in my head. And I built it up to be this huge thing.

You see, video has always been tough for me.

I don’t love how I sound or look on camera.

And I’m also pretty introverted, and video makes me feel vulnerable.

But when I sat down to do some deep reflection on why I didn’t start earlier…

I realized it was because I was afraid and was letting fear get in the way.

So I “stuck with what I was good at”….

and avoided getting on video on social media.

Plus I really love to write 🙂 And it was all working just fine…

Until something big happened.

There was a giant shift in the market. And it became glaringly clear that the FASTEST way to grow right now is Reels.

It’s outperforming nearly every other strategy.

Now, I’ve got IG experts on my team, so I’ve always deferred to their expertise.

But if I was going to ask my clients to do something, I better be willing and able to do it, too.

Leading by example is really important to me.

So I pulled up my big girl pants and dove in head first with a beginners mindset.

I knew it was going to be messy.

I knew I was going to feel uncomfortable.

I know I was going to get a bunch of things wrong.

But you know what?

Today marks day 35 of me posting a DAILY reel

(oh and today I shared free tool that I use every day in my biz that saves me a ton of time. And I can almost guarantee you haven’t heard of it before!)

Anywho, I wanted to share a few important things I learned…

Because if YOU have been avoiding” reels…

I want you to know that you can ABSOLUTELY DO THIS.

Whether it’s because you “hate social media”, are afraid to put yourself out there, hate how you look or sound on video, not sure where to start, don’t have the time, and the list goes on…

YOU ABSOLUTELY CAN DO IT. You just have to start.

And if you want to grow and change more lives, remember that the impact you can create is WAY BIGGER than you feeling a little uncomfortable on camera for a couple of minutes.

What I learned?

  1. It took me a lot longer than I thought
  2. It’s harder than I thought.

But you know what?

I’m already getting faster and faster. I’m already getting more comfortable. And it’s already a lot easier.

And it’ll be the same for you, too.

Batching my content has been a huge help (I’ll show you exactly how in a separate email)…

And focusing on “progress over perfection” has been key.

Also key? Setting a realistic (but little bit of a stretch!) goal to post DAILY has helped me speed up my learning curve.

You ALWAYS learn the most by doing the thing.

So if you’ve been putting off reels for ANY REASON…

I want you to know that I believe in you. If I can do it, you can do it.

And NOW is the time to jump in, if you haven’t already.

If you don’t know where to start, just reply back to this email and I can point you in the right direction.

You’ve got this,

Alicia
